Offpage Optimization

So, what is offpage optimization anyway? Offpage optimization basically consists of all of the ranking factors that are NOT located on your webpage, that the search engines look at when ranking a website.

How well you develop "offpage optimization" will determine the success you have in driving traffic to your website. Fortunately, nothing happens by accident on the internet! You can CONTROL how much traffic is driven to your website with a little work. You need to put serious effort into this phase if you are at all serious about making a living online or just want a top ranking website in Google, Yahoo! or MSN. Off page optimization makes a huge difference in terms of visitor traffic.

However, I strongly recommend understanding the manual process below.

Why are we doing Offpage Optimization?

The whole reason for going through the process below is to gain HIGH QUALITY INBOUND LINKS pointing to your website. You must have these in order to rank well in the major search engines.

What are Offpage factors?

You must analyze the top 10 websites that appear in Google for the search term you wish to optimize. In order to acheive  improved search engine rank for the term "buy vitamins online" you will look at:

FIRST...Search on Keyword term In Google

Let's see what web sites are returned for our search term. Enter "Buy vitamins online" into search box: vitaminBacklinks

Results

As I mentioned , we'll need to analyze a bunch of things about the #5 ( I picked #5 because it opened fastest , that's all, I suggest starting with #1) ranked website for the term "buy vitamins online" (http://www.solgar.co.uk/vitamin_online.htm). Then we will out-do each site in terms of the each specific optimization factor, basically copy what they are doing, but BETTER. Follow these steps and you will blow away the competition. Our screen shot only shows the first 4 websites.. you still should analyze all 10 if your goal is getting improved search engine rank.

Step 1 & 2 - Linking websites & number of IB links

We will determine which website is in the #1 position and the number of IB links to them.( you will need to do this for the top 10 websites )

Step 3 - Page Rank of Pages Linking to Target Page

We see the site http://rjgresearch.com/vitamins/vitamin-online.php which links to our target site has a page rank of 0. This is good news since PR 1 and above is relatively easy to acheive.

Step 4 - Page Title of the website linking to Target Page

The page title of the linking page is "Vitamin Online"

Step 5 - The anchor text used in the link linking to you

anchor text is "Solgar"

Step 6 - The number and type of links linking to the website that's linking to them

Next we need to find the number of webpages linking to the page linking to http://www.solgar.co.uk/vitamin_online.htm . Again, this page is: http://rjgresearch.com/vitamins/vitamin-online.php ( we determined this in step 3 ). This number is 27.

Step 7 - The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to them

This is the number links on http://rjgresearch.com/vitamins/vitamin-online.php that point to outside pages ( different domains ). The number of out bound links is 20

Step 8 - The total number of links on the website that is linking is linking to you

The total combined in steps 6 and 7 is 47 The idea is to get links from websites with the fewest possible total links, ggo.

Step 9 - Whether or not the websites linking to them are deemed by Google as an authority website

This one can be a bit tricky. The idea behind this is that Google views websites that are ranked high in the search engines AND contain lots of content AND have high Page Rank's to be authority websites. For this, I like to use the following free tool. http://www.andyhagans.com/tools/hubfinder/

Step 10 -The IP Address of the websites linking to them.

Free tool to track this, It is important to get links from as many different IP addresses as possible.

Tracking This Data

You'll want to open up an excel spreadsheet and keep track of ALL of this information as you go... Once you've finished with this , you'll want to move on to the next "link partner" on the list ( when you did the original search on "buy vitamins online"), and do the exact same thing with this one.

Again, This approach of analyzing offpage factors will accelerate your web page to highest rankings because it will lead you to the best link partners. This method above will show you which websites will actually push your ranking higher if you get links pointing to your webpage. Linking to the wrong websites can HURT YOUR SEARCH ENGINE RANKING.
