Choosing the best keywords

In order to be achieve improved search engine rank, you will need to locate and develop a good niche or market idea. Market research will help you find niches that will successfully monetize your website - picking the right " niche keywords" is critical!

Niche keywords can be created around topics within your website that are relevant - these are your sub pages. For example if your website is theme based around "Finding the best PC and hardware" A niche might be "PC protection". You'll see how to develop this into a money generating web page down the road , however!! it all starts with picking the right keywords.

How do we do that?

You can easily come up with a good niche in a very short time - about an hour. You'll need two tools which are online and free ( we'll get to them in a moment ) but for now just brainstorm. Think of a few things that come to mind and jot them down, for example I picked these:

It's not super critical at this point what terms you choose, you'll see soon how just about any phrase or idea can be developed into an idea for niche marketing. Were still brainstorming ...

So above we see that the term "vitamins" yields many different results.While getting over 276,000 searches monthly my gut feel is that the term "vitamins" is a bit too broad a topic to develop a niche marketing strategy, so lets dig deeper.

I'll choose "buy vitamin" as a term to dig into , still no real logic to this decision, as any other term could be a candidate for deep digging.

We'll us the free Word Tracker tool to analyze daily searchs on our new term. The free version displays results based on MSN search, you'll need to purchase the full version if you want more features, but for now the free version will do just fine. Word Tracker trial version -free

We'll now enter "buy vitamins" into the word tracker search box wich produces an extensive list on the left hand side of the page ( step 2 ). Click on that and the right side of the screen produces 22 related searchs, the first being "buy vitamins online". Click on that and it load the keyword to be analyzed in step 4. I notice in step 4 that the term "buy vitamins online" gets about 47 searchs a day and has a KEI of 14.4 ( an index that scores supply and demand for a particular keyword, terms scoring over 10 are considered good choices)

So we know we have a key phrase "buy vitamins online" that gets about 47 searchs per day and a KEI of 14.4, meaning competion may not be too tough. What next??

Marketing Ideas

At this point you have a niche evolving, people are actually going online to buy vitamins! We can:
-Start to think in terms of a creating a theme based content filled web site around the keyword " buy vitamins online" and then...
- Promote affiliate merchant products on the website which will generate income.
- This would be a good time to stop and search for vitamin - affiliate programs online. These are vitamin merchants who pay you commissions when visitiors click over from your website to the merchants and make a purchase. These are companies that actually sell the product to the customer, REMEMBER!! your site would be a pre-sales effort monetizing on the conversion by referring traffic to the actual merchant.

Also remember, improved search engine rank is based on good niche keywords which are not overly competitive and have enough demand ( meaning actual volume of searches ) to warrant developing a theme based web site or niche page to an existing web site.

Next we'll look at the competition aspect to determine the number of websites that are actually competing for these keywords. This will help us either keep moving forward or "ditch" the idea and move on to something else, with better profit potential. Part 2
